WHAT IS TELEPRACTICE

TELEPRACTICE FOR SPEECH & LANGUAGE SERVICES

No running around town.  No finding a babysitter.  No more juggling acts.

What is teletherapy?

Teletherapy, is a growing service delivery model that allows healthcare professionals to provide services to their clients via the computer. With a secure internet connection, you or a family member can receive speech and language therapy sessions in a variety of locations including schools, clinics, offices, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, or even your own home. It is an effective approach that allows for services to be delivered in remote areas to clients who may have gone without. It is also a very convenient way to ensure that appointments are kept and treatment plans are carried out. There is no need to commute to your speech therapy sessions, just log in to your computer at your scheduled time and be connected directly with a highly qualified, licensed, trained, ASHA certified speech-language pathologist.

Does teletherapy work as well as on-site therapy?

Yes. Teletherapy has been used to evaluate and treat clients of all ages. According to the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), research suggests that there are few differences between teletherapy and in-person services. Most clients who receive teletherapy report that they are very satisfied.
In our experience, we have seen consistent progress in our clients in a shorter amount of time than when we worked in traditional settings. The benefit of serving clients 1:1 or 2:1 has proven to be an effective approach as it allows for the ability to capitalize on each individual’s strengths while directly addressing their weaknesses. The technology has been very motivating and it keeps clients engaged and eager to participate. I am able to customize my materials to coincide with the interests of my clients while focusing on their goals.
